Tarcoola piano 2009
A reminder of a time when families would gather round the piano for entertainment.
This is outside the church minister’s house in Tarcoola – an almost abandoned railway town. The piano and an old kero fridge sit outside keeping each other company. Nearly thirty years ago we had a major bushfire in the nearby hills. I’ll always remember hearing a local radio reporter who was also a volunteer firefighter reporting from outside his own house as it burnt down. He described hearing the sound of his piano crashing through the burning floor and into the cellar. At least this old relic has been left to slowly slip away.
There are many ways in which photography and music share ideas both technically and artistically.
Todays recommended listening : Tom Waits, Swordfishtrombones.
